More owners of an Xperia X10 smartphone from Sony Ericsson can now download and install the Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system flavor on their devices, as the handset vendor has just announced the availability of this software for Telstra's customers.

The update is now available for download for all those who would like to give it a try, and brings along a nice range enhancements when compared to the Android 2.1 platform that was previously available on the phone.

“Good news for Telstra customers waiting for the Xperia X10 Gingerbread update - it's available for download now,” the mobile phone maker announced via Facebook.

For some, the new software update might arrive a little later than expected, yet we're sure that there are users who have been eagerly waiting for the new OS flavor to land on their devices.

Gingerbread brings a breath of fresh air on Xperia X10, a rather old smartphone, but still capable of delivering a great experience to its users.

The new update will bring along a series of features that were previously available only on Sony Ericsson's this year Xperia devices.

Some of the enhancements packed with this update would include: - Facebook inside Xperia – a series of unique integrations of Facebook into your multimedia apps, phonebook and calendar - The possibility to use your phone as a Wi-Fi hotspot - Music player with equalizer - USB tethering – share your 3G data connection via the USB connector - Photo widget – one click access to your photo gallery app - App tray sorting – arrange your apps in the order you want them.

These are only some of the improvements that the new operating system flavor brings on Xperia X10 devices, and users who would like to learn more on the matter should head over to Sony Ericsson's support website for that.
