14 DAY TRIAL // Indian owners of the Xperia arc should be happy to know that Sony Ericsson is currently deploying the latest Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread update.
Although the software update is not yet available OTA (over-the-air), those who wish to upgrade their firmwares can do so by using the PC Companion software.
Sony Ericsson Xperia arc and Xperia PLAY are among the first 'non-Nexus' smartphone to taste Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread.
However, the Swedish-Japanese joint-venture plans to deploy the update to other devices in the Xperia family in the near future, including Xperia Neo, Mini and Mini Pro.
Besides bringing the Android platform to version 2.3.3, the main feature addition in this update is Facebook Inside Xperia that was presented two months ago along with the Xperia mini lineup.
The new feature provides users with complete Facebook integration and allows them to share, like and connect on Facebook in a fast and easy way.
In addition, Android Gingerbread 2.3.3 brings fixes and improvements based on the feedback that Sony Ericsson received from users.
Lots of fixes and optimizations within many different areas have been included with the update, but some of these are more important and worth mentioning:
- Facebook Inside Xperia; - Battery performance; - General software stability; - Wi-Fi stability; - HD Video recording performance; - Touch responsiveness.
Feedback from Indian owners of the Xperia arc are already confirming that the update is indeed bringing the improvements above.
However, it appears that not all is well, as users who already flashed the new update reported few issues with their phones such as the EV slider that seems to be slightly dislocated a little above, or brightness switch that doesn't work properly as per user settings for individual min. & max. brightness.
On related news, Sony Ericsson already confirmed that Facebook Inside Xperia will be available for the Xperia X10 as well.
