Mobile phone carrier O2 UK has just started delivering the Android 2.2 Froyo software update to the owners of a Dell Streak on its network. The solution is being sent over the air as we speak, and users are advised to download it via an Wi-Fi connection to avoid data charges.

Those interested in the update should head to Settings > About Phone > System Updates on their Dell Streak devices to check whether the solution was made available for them or not.

According to the company, there are some pretty appealing enhancements that users would taste after upgrading their devices to the new OS version.

Among them, we can count:

- Adobe Flash 10.1: enabling a richer web experience through enabling flash based animation, video, and games to run natively in your browser. - Native Exchange Support: full access to your Exchange email, including auto discovery, remote wipe, Exchange calendars, and Global Address List look up for contacts. - Pre-loaded Swype Keyboard App: Your Dell Streak Froyo upgrade includes a Swype keyboard app, a finger-tracing text entry input method. Trace words or type as a standard keyboard. The choice is yours. - Dell Stage User Interface/Launcher: Stage is a set of widgets such as Home/Recent Apps, Email, Music, Gallery, Contacts, Web, Social (Facebook/Twitter) that bring your content to your homescreen and help you stay connected.

Dell started sending the software solution to its users a few weeks ago, but only to unlocked devices. Carrier-branded Dell Streak tablet PCs were announced to receive the solution at a later time, and O2 has started the roll-out process today.

Those Dell Streak owners on the wireless carrier's airwaves interested in the solution should back up all data on their devices before proceeding with the update.

“We’ve been hard at work with our friends at Dell to bring Android 2.2 to our Streak customers and are happy to say it’s all ready to go. We’re gradually making the update available from today onwards,” the wireless carrier announced.

As stated above, users can check on the availability of the new software solution straight from their devices, without having to wait for the operator no notify them. Since the download counts towards one's data usage limit, Streak users are advised to perform the download via a Wi-Fi connection.

O2 has also put up a full guide on updating the Dell Streak, and users can check on it here.
