Orange UK and Samsung have recently made the Android 2.2 Froyo upgrade for Galaxy S users available via Kies. Customers of the UK carrier have been waiting for the software update since last fall, when Samsung originally said that the update would be available in September 2010.

However, for unknown reasons, the manufacturer postponed the release of the Froyo update for Orange UK Galaxy S owners for November 2010. Unfortunately, November came and Orange UK customers didn't received the update as Samsung promised, so rumors that the Galaxy S will stay on Android 2.1 for a long time started to spread.

It eventually took Samsung more than two months to be able to release this update, which is not even available over-the-air (OTA). Customers will have to install the latest version of Samsung's Kies sync software and connect their Galaxy S devices to a Windows PC.

Users might experience issues the first time they're trying to connect their Galaxy S, as Samsung's software is already known for causing frequent problems.

By using the Software Update on Kies, you will be able to ensure your phone is running on the fastest, most stable and feature rich software available. Check for new updates regularly to make sure your phone is running the latest software available,” stated Samsung.

Orange UK is one of the last carriers to roll out the Android 2.2 Froyo update to Galaxy S users, which may be the last major software update the smartphone will ever get.

As a side note, Samsung announced at the end of 2010 that Android 2.2 will be available for all Galaxy S users in the UK, regardless of their carrier.

At that time, the announcement was made via Twitter and stated, “We have some good news for the festive season; 2.2 is now available for the Galaxy S on all networks.”
