T-Mobile has just informed its subscribers using myTouch 3G smartphones, that it will continue to roll out the Android 2.2 OS update until December 15. Previously, the deployment of the update was slated to end on October 25th, but for unknown reasons the carrier decided to prolong the timeline in December.

T-Mobile started to deliver the update to its customers using the original myTouch 3G in waves beginning October 13, but is now forced to extend the timeline by nearly two months.

The carrier also stated that the OTA update will be received in a two parts process.

The first update will take approximately 5-10 minutes to download and will be followed by approximately a 30 minute period of time before the next update is received. The second update will take approximately one hour to receive.

myTouch 3G users do not have the option to manually update their software, but they will receive a notification on their devices by December 15.

Furthermore, T-Mobile representatives are also unable to manually push the software to customers who ask to receive it before December 15, as the delivery is exclusively managed by Google.

The new Android 2.2 OS update for myTouch 3G brings major improvements to the device such as new fully integrated Exchange client, Faves gallery, new Home Screen features, Gmail application enhancements, performance enhancements for camera and camcorder.

In addition to the improvements above, the new update adds enhancements to Google Maps, YouTube app, Facebook app, and Twitter app, as well as the ability to add multiple languages to the keyboard.

As a side note, this initial update is only for customers using the original myTouch 3G.

So far it's unclear whether or not T-Mobile has plans to deliver the Android 2.2 Froyo update to owners of the myTouch 3G with 3.5mm jack and myTouch 3G Fender Limited Edition, but the operator is going to post more details over the following weeks.
