It has been a longer than expected wait, but the Android 2.2 Froyo software update from Google is now rolling-out on Nexus One. The Internet giant announced the launch of the new mobile OS flavor ever since last month, when it promised that the update would be delivered within a few weeks, and now the final Android 2.2 build for Nexus One is being pushed out to users.

“Starting today, Nexus One users will begin to receive the Android 2.2 (codenamed Froyo) over-the-air software update on their phones. This update provides some great new features including support for making your handset a portable hotspot and support for Adobe Flash within the browser,” a recent post on Google's Nexus One board reads.

The new Android 2.2 Froyo build available from Google is FRF85, and follows a long list of interim builds the development team made available not too long ago. Regardless the current build running on one's Nexus One, the new FRF85 build is supposedly meant to bring the software on the handset up to date. This means that the update should work both for those who kept the stock Android 2.1 on their devices, as well as for those who installed leaked Froyo builds.

“In order to access the update, you will receive a message on your phone's notification bar. Just download the update, wait for it to install, and you should be all set. This update will be rolled out gradually to phones - and most users will receive the notification by the end of the week,” the aforementioned post continues.

In case there are some who can hardly wait to have the new Android 2.2 (FRF85 build) installed on their devices, they can proceed to a manual download and installation of the software update via this link. A large amount of new features, enhancements and improvements were announced to arrive with the Android 2.2 platform, and Nexus One owners are the first to benefit from them. However, other devices should also benefit from the update in the near future, so stay tuned to learn more details.
