Several weeks ago, Mountain View-based Internet giant Google announced the launch of a new version of its Android operating system, namely Android 2.2 (codename Froyo) and promised that the solution would arrive on devices very soon, yet no official update for existing handsets on the market was released. However, in case there are some who would like to enjoy the benefits of having the latest Android on their devices before the official update arrives, a leaked build is now available for download.

Since the only mobile phone that has been seen with Android 2.2 on board is Nexus One, the new software solution is available for that device only. According to those who posted the files online, the new update should bring the FRF50 stock build on the device up to build FRF72. At the same time, they came up with a ROM that can be used by those who rooted their devices too, so as to enable as many users as possible to install the new build FRF72 on Nexus One.

According to some reports around the Internet, the new build brings forth a series of fixes and improvements for the device. Here is a list of fixes that people reported on after installing the new build (according to a recent post on androidandme): - Power button working properly - Improved Flash performance - Stock browser speed increase - Increased internal storage (~ 50 MB) - Improved 3G reception.

The Android 2.2 build FRF72 is available both for rooted and non-rooted Nexus One units out there. Those who would like to give it a try should back up all data on their mobile phone before proceeding, just to make sure nothing is lost in case things do not work out the way they should. Moreover, one should also consider the fact that it would be much safer to wait for the official Android 2.2 update for Nexus One (or any other Android-based device, for that matter) to be released. However, for now, there are no details on when that should happen.
