Canadian wireless carrier TELUS should offer some of its users the possibility to soon upgrade the experience they receive from their devices. We're referring to the HTC Hero owners at the carrier, who should be able to install the long awaited Android 2.1 software update on their devices in the near future, it seems.

According to the latest news on the matter, the Android OS 2.1 software update for TELUS' HTC Hero is expected to arrive pretty soon, at least this is what the carrier would suggest.

A HowardForums member points out to the fact that the source code of TELUS' HTC Hero web page states that the said software update is coming soon.

Among the features touted as arriving along with the new solution, we can sound Flash support for viewing rich web pages, Google Maps Navigation, Voice-dialer, Multi-Touch navigation, or People Group Widget.

However, a recent article on MobileSyrup suggests that things might not be as good as they seem, and that the software update would actually arrive on handsets in early Q4.

Unfortunately, it seems that there are no specific details available on why the wireless carrier would delay the release of Android 2.1 for Hero, especially since a wide range of operators around the world already deployed it.

The first carrier to deliver Android 2.1 to its Hero users was Sprint in the US, which started the roll-out of this upgrade back in May.

HTC delivered the solution to unlocked HTC Hero devices on the European market, and various carriers on the old continent already started to send it over to their users.

The HTC Hero was launched on the market last year with Google's Android 1.5 OS on board, and hasn't received a software update since, except for the Android 2.1 platform earlier this year, which was meant to greatly expand the functionality of the device.
