Android 2.1, the next version of Google's mobile operating system, is set to make an appearance in the not too far future on the market, and the first device to sport it seems to be the Nexus One phone. The handset, which is reportedly made by HTC, has made it to the headlines over the past few days, as it was originally said to come to the market as the Google Phone some of you might have heard about before.

The Nexus One phone has been spotted on a series of videos already, and some photos with the operating system it runs under already emerged into the wild, yet now something new is available for enthusiasts. The guys over at Redmond Pie have put together what they said are the wallpapers from the handset's ROM, and one can easily enjoy them now. 25 is the total number of wallpapers that can be found there, all being taken from the pre-release Android 2.1 ROM the Nexus One phone has been released into Google's employees' hands.

The Nexus One, says the news site, is the Google Phone, something that the latest rumors also pointed out. What started the rumors was the fact that Google handed the device to its employees, announcing that it has done so solely for testing purposes. What we were to understand from this, although it wasn't said out loud, was that Android 2.1 is currently being tested on that phone. Moreover, with previous rumors that the next flavor of Android might arrive in early 2010, none thought otherwise.

However, while the existence of Nexus One and of its Android 2.1 flavor can not be questioned, the possibility that it will land on the market as “The Google Phone” can. Given the fact that the device itself and the Android 2.1 OS might arrive in a couple of weeks, we might learn very soon that it was launched on the market as the Nexus One by HTC, something that is more likely than seeing it released as the Google Phone, one should agree. Head over at Redmond Pie for more details on the Android 2.1 wallpapers.
