The long-awaited Android 2.1 software update for the Motorola Milestone is finally available for users across Europe. Motorola officially announced the move via its Facebook page, and stated that the solution would be deployed starting with France, and covering Germany, Italy and the UK in the following weeks. The update process is set to be completed by mid-April, it seems.
“Hello everyone! We are delighted to say that the European roll-out of our
2.1 upgrade began today in France and will roll out across Germany, Italy and the UK between now and mid-April as testing and approvals are completed. Stay tuned for your own country’s announcement and look forward to enhancements including live wallpapers, up to 9 home screens, added security for exchange server users and more,” is what the company
states about the update.
Beside the live wallpapers and additional homescreens, the new Android 2.1 software update for
the Motorola Milestone also comes along with a free Facebook App and Widget, with Google Maps Updates, and with a series of other enhancements too. The Facebook app enables users to import contacts from the social network, including Names, Profile Pics and Status, into the phones’ contacts, while the widget offers live updates from the Facebook account.
The Google Maps updates available for
Milestone users include Personalized suggestions, which is set to auto-complete locations based on one's search history on maps.google.com. Moreover, users will enjoy desktop synchronization of starred items, though one will have to be logged into the myGoogle account for that. In addition, the software solution comes with enabled support for multi-touch.
Other improvements include:
- Help: A new Help Center app is included that provides mobile access to your user guide, video tours of key features, tips and tricks, and FAQs to help you get the most from your device.
- Bluetooth support: support for Bluetooth headset multi function for initiating voice calls
- Security: Prevents unauthorized pattern lock bypass, allows for PIN security and local device wipe following PIN error input
- Music Player: Album art 3D gallery view supported in landscape orientation
- Battery life: ongoing battery life optimization
- Email account removal: Improvements to manual removal of email accounts
