The long awaited Android 2.1 software update for the Motorola Backflip smartphone is finally making its way into the wild, it appears. Promised for the first time many months ago, the software update reportedly landed on a series of test devices, and should become generally available as soon as next week. It appears that a number of 1,000 Motorola Blackflip users who volunteered to test the software update already received it, and that the rest of them should see it available for them too, come November 9th.

According to a recent article on Engadget, some internal document that leaked from AT&T states that all markets will receive the solution next week, though no info on when the update process will end emerged.

The said document also unveiled the fact that the software solution will not be released over the air, and that the update process will take around 40 minutes to complete.

In order to receive the update, users will have to download an upgrade tool from Motorola, while having to sideload it on their devices through a desktop computer.

The software update will be copied to the microSD memory card inside the handset, and then it will be installed on the phone.

Even if AT&T and Motorola do not plan on sending the Android 2.1 update to their Backflip users out there over the air, it still sounds like great news that they are finally releasing the solution.

The update was delayed quite a few times before, and Motorola Backflip owners had to way for about four of five months before the software became available for them.

No official announcement on the availability of this software update was made until now but, since the solution is set to become generally available on Tuesday, AT&T and Motorola might make a move in this direction soon.

Stay tuned for more info on the update's availability, as well as on how the process goes for those who already installed it.
