Motorola and Verizon Wireless had in plan the release of an Android 2.1 software update for the users of a Motorola DROID handset on the carrier's airwaves, yet it seems that they have pushed back the deployment for an unknown period of time. However, a series of test users already received the update, though the mass roll-out will come a little later, at a yet unknown time.

According to the latest news around the Internet, Verizon and Motorola decided to delay the release of the Android 2.1 software update due to a bug that was discovered only a few hours before the deployment was set to kick off. It still remains to be seen when the update comes to users, though most of them will certainly not be happy with the delay.

“The Android 2.1 upgrade for the DROID by Motorola was deployed to a small number of Verizon Wireless test users as scheduled. It is expected the broader phased rollout to all DROID by Motorola users will take place but not just yet. No date scheduled yet, we will keep you posted. The test group upgrade was not delayed. No time frame was announced - other than 'shortly' - on upgrade deployment,” Verizon said on the matter, PhoneArena reports.

This is the second time Motorola and Verizon push back the Android 2.1 update for the Motorola DROID. They first announced its availability back in February, but said that it had been delayed only a few days before it was supposed to be delivered to users. This time around, however, things might get going sooner than before, and it might be only a matter of days before they start the roll-out to all DROID owners out there.

Until that happens, DROID's users will remain with the Android 2.0 operating system on their mobile phones, though one should agree that it still has a lot of appealing features to offer. Stay tuned for more details on this as soon as they become available.
