Not many Spider-Man fans were convinced that British actor Andrew Garfield was the right choice for the upcoming reboot of the franchise. At least, as far as he’s concerned, he can honestly say he’s done everything in his power to become the character he’s playing in the film.

In a recent interview cited by NME, the actor reveals that, before starting work on the film “The Amazing Spider-Man” which doesn’t arrive in theaters until 2012, he spent a long while studying spiders.

In order to learn how to move and, to a certain extent, think like a spider, Garfield dedicated himself to the study of real-life spiders, believing this would help him make a more convincing Spider-Man.

“I studied spiders, I studied their movements and how they operate in the world and I tried to incorporate as much of that as I could,” the actor says.

“He’s a boy / spider in terms of how he moves, and not just in the suit. It also shapes the way he interacts with people,” Garfield adds.

Studying how spiders move was essential if he wanted to be a convincing Spider-Man, the British star further says.

“I looked at the idea of having more legs, more arms, and the spacial awareness. A spider moves up, down, side-to-side, all around. He’s not linear and with the knowledge of that spatial awareness and the fact that he can be here and then over there incredibly fast,” he explains.

While some fans are still not convinced that he’s a good choice for the part they feel was made for Tobey Maguire, Garfield won over the majority of them with his touching speech at Comic-Con 2011 in San Diego.

Dressed in a cheap-looking Spidey suit, the actor told fans how much it meant for him to be able to play the part of the character who made him understand, as a child, that it was ok to be different, as we also informed you at the time.
