In July 2014, one of the most famous, beautiful and controversial models in the world, Andrej Pejic came out as a trans-woman. Andreja underwent gender reassignment surgery later that year, and she’s just made her runway debut at the London Fashion Week the other night.

She was psyched to walk for Giles, as the messages and photos she posted to social media, available below, can confirm.

Andreja is here

With the July 2014 announcement, the model revealed she would be known as Andreja from then on. She also said that the decision had been made after over a year and a half of proper consideration, and that she was happy to embrace her true identity at long last.

Prior to that, when she was known as Andrej, the model had caused serious waves both in the fashion industry and outside of it, being one of the few androgynous models to wear both men and women’s clothes.

He was known as the “prettiest boy in the world” at the time, a model who broke gender barriers and redefined the idea of beauty.

Andrej got his big break in 2010, when Carine Roitfeld, then the editor of the French Vogue, put him in the womenswear editorial shoot. It wasn’t long before that and he was walking for some of the biggest designers out there, including Jean Paul Gaultier and Marc Jacobs.

However, last night’s show was the first time the model walked the runway as Andreja, so this is her big fashion debut in a way.

A big night for Andreja

The Independent notes that Andreja joined a very impressive cast of models for this particular show, including Anna Cleveland, Erin O’Connor, Edie Campbell and Lily Donaldson. Kendall Jenner, half-sister of Kim Kardashian, was also there on modeling duties, as one of the photos available below will show.

Because Andreja has been a captivating subject since the day she was still known as Andrej, it’s not just fashion publications that are paying attention to her debut on the catwalk. So yes, this was a very big night for the model.

Later last year, Andreja announced a Kickstarter campaign for the documentary “Andrej(a),” which she was working on at the time and that would document her transition from male to female, including her rise in the fashion industry.

That campaign closed without obtaining the funds needed to bring the documentary to wide audiences, but now that she’s working and getting so much media attention, she will probably find it easier to get financial backing for what promised to be a very interesting film.
