Gene Munster expects a redesigned iPhone 5 to totally drive Apple’s growth, according to a new research note from the Piper Jaffray analyst who believes an "iPhone 5" in 2012 will set the stage for outperformance in 2013.

Quoted in an AppleInsider piece, Munster reportedly said he believes significant changes will arrive in 2012 because Apple did not introduce a major iPhone redesign this year.

Launching in mid-2012, by his estimates, the iPhone 5 can drive sales of up to 142 million units (including older-gen devices), which would translate into an 18 percent increase in revenue.

A bull case scenario pegs the iPhone sales at 162 million units throughout 2013, which spells a 35 percent increase in revenue, according to the analyst.
