Michael Pachter, the analyst watching the video game industry for Wedbush Morgan, believes that the rumor of an always-on connection requirement for the Xbox 720 from Microsoft will be confirmed during the reveal event planned for May 21.

On his Pach Attack show, the analyst states, “As much as it pains, this always-on, always connected rumor is starting to sound like it might be real.”

A number of other sources have said that Microsoft will ask all players to be constantly connected to the Internet in order to use the new console, which might be called Xbox Now!.

Other analysts believe that such a move would needlessly restrict the potential audience for the new hardware and would give the PlayStation 4 from Sony an advantage regarding the long-term sales potential.
