Following a series of rumors on Amazon’s possible plans to launch its own mobile phone, new reports suggest that the company could be set to make the device official as soon as today.

The company will hold a launch event today, and the Amazon Phone could be unveiled then, a recent article on The Verge claims.

However, details on the handset itself are scarce at the moment, and the only aspect that was unveiled is that it would feature a new version of Kindle Fire's Android-based platform.

It won’t offer the full set of Android capabilities, as other devices powered by Google’s OS do, but it is expected to pack Nokia’s Maps as a location service.

Apparently, the smartphone is not yet ready, and Amazon might not unveil too many details on it due to that.
