Last week, a BBC radio interview with Blake Fielder-Civil's parents made the long-existing feud between the singer and her husband's families public. Immediately after Blake's parents practically begged the fans to sabotage Amy and not buy her records unless she goes drug-free, another interview hit the media, this time granted by Amy's furious father who was quick to imply the Fielder-Civils were in fact trying to shift the blame from their son, who was and is the true villain of the whole ugly affair.
The fact is, there is no such thing as a mastermind behind some kind of plot and no innocent victim forced to consume drugs and give up her free will. It may very well be that Blake has a disastrous influence on Amy, as it has been claimed by Amy's friends and family, but Amy herself is an adult and should have at least some form of control over her life - if she wanted to, that is. And now, another part of the feuding statements saga comes into the open as Blake's mother gives a newspaper interview in which some aspects that were previously unknown come into the open.
One good thing that can be said about Georgette's interview is that it's certainly more sensible than any of the things that have been said so far by members of both families. She certainly does sound like a desperate mother and is certainly not trying to pin any of Blake's problems on Amy. "If he's alive for another year, I think we'll be very lucky" she says and goes on to claim that "Blake and Amy are like two separate accidents waiting to happen. Their meeting simply exacerbated everything that was wrong in their lives to the verge of tragedy".
I can definitely see that Amy's dad will object to this last statement. It basically implies that there was something wrong with Amy even before she met Blake, something both Mitch Winehouse and his former wife, Amy's mother Janice, have denied so far. "I'm so desperate to get Blake away from drugs that I'm even considering paying to have him kidnapped and taken to a safe house where we could get professional help for him". Honestly, I believe that might be the best course of action in the present, but if the couple doesn't become aware of the serious problems, there's not much that can be done. And according to Georgette Civil, Amy and Blake are in denial of their addiction. "They cannot see", she claims, "how much danger they are in or how destructive their relationship is, based on an unhealthy codependency, obsessive love and a shared fondness for hard drugs and alcohol".
"Our greatest fear is that if one of them dies, the other will commit suicide, such is their love for one another", she adds and goes on to say that the best solution at present would be for Amy and Blake to separate and try to solve their problems away from the destructive influence of each other. She also reveals that Amy's record label Universal/Republic has given Amy a final warning to clean up her act or she will be dumped. Apparently, it's Universal which is paying for Amy's holiday to St. Lucia. And while everyone hopes for a miracle (namely that Amy will finally realize that she's harming herself and stop) one of the comments made by Blake's mother echoes some sort of ominous prophecy. "If Amy died, Blake's life wouldn't be worth living because he'd be vilified. He told me as much himself. He told me that if Amy died on a Monday he would be dead by Monday night".
