When he said he’d lost the love of his life when Amy Winehouse was found dead in her London home, Reg Traviss wasn’t exaggerating: he and the singer had gotten engaged in secret just shortly before her untimely death, it has emerged.

Amy and Reg dated for 2 years, with various sources saying of their relationship that it was the one thing that saved Amy’s life by convincing her to kick her addiction for once and for all.

As such, it’s not that much of a surprise to hear that they were actually engaged and planning to tie the knot next year, as unnamed sources tell The Sun.

“Reg asked Amy and of course she said ‘Yes.’ She loved him. She wanted nothing more than to be his wife and to start a family with him. She wanted to get rid of her demons so badly,” says a source.

Apparently, Reg proposed to Amy with a diamond ring during a “heart to heart” discussion about their future. It helped Amy in her struggle to quit alcohol as well, says the spy.

“They openly said they wanted to spend the rest of their lives together. They both thought the absolute world of each other,” says the inside source.

Nevertheless, Winehouse’s family is yet to confirm news of the engagement.

According to the British tabloid, Amy and Reg, a British filmmaker whom she started dating shortly after her bitter split from ex-husband Blake Fielder-Civil, were planning on a 2012 wedding.

They also wanted to start a family as soon as possible: Amy, for one, was desperate to have children.

“Amy spent a week in rehab in June and told loved ones afterwards she was determined to quit booze. She was planning her future with Reg and that was playing a huge part in her thinking,” says the spy.

“Amy was adamant about sorting herself out. Reg’s proposal made her even more determined,” adds the source.

At her funeral, Amy’s father said that she’d been sober for 3 weeks at the time of her death, adding that he believed that withdrawal symptoms were simply too much for her frail body: so she had a seizure, slipped into a coma and never woke up again.
