Amy Winehouse to Star in Cult Sci-Fi TV Show

- The singer landed a highly unlikely acting gig

By: Monica Gaza, Entertainment News Editor

Everyone, beware: British trainwreck extraordinaire Amy Winehouse is coming to television, and there ain't no stopping her. The troubled singer, who shot to international fame with her best-selling album "Back to Black", has created a rather grim reputation for herself
around the world, mainly because of her well-publicized alcohol and substance abuse. Amy has been struggling to kick her addictions and get her career back on track, but has been having a hard time coping with the sober life and her husband's prolonged imprisonment. However, Wino's managers seem to have gotten a brilliant idea from Amy's fellow trainwreck Britney Spears, and have allegedly secured the beehived jazz diva a place on the new series of the iconic British science fiction television program "Dr. Who".

It's not a late April Fool's joke, although it may initially sound like there's no truth behind it. However, NME magazine claims Amy will take on a role initially made famous by 1980s actress Kate O'Mara and play evil genius The Rani, who (as seen in previous series of the SF show) has an inclination to enslave entire planets. Wino has never performed on TV to this day, but she did attend London's prestigious Sylvia Young Theatre School – until she was expelled, that is. Sources report that Wino is delighted with her new job. "She was a total Dr. Who nerd as a kid. Her and Blake have all the DVDs in their flat. She once even told people at the Hawley Arms that she had a massive crush on [fourth Doctor] Tom Baker when he visited the pub," sources report.

"Doctor Who" is an award-winning BBC-produced British science fiction television program depicting the adventures of a time-traveling alien who goes under the name of "the Doctor" and who roams the galaxy playing Superman and saving planets and young damsels in distress. And if the thought of clumsy, drug-dazed, scabby-faced Amy playing an evil alien genius on TV makes you chuckle, don't worry – you're definitely not the only ones. Keep in mind, though, that the jazz diva is following in the footsteps of singers Bille Piper and Kylie Minogue and comedian Katherine Tate, all of whom have already guest starred in the show.
