It was only a matter of time before major-league British trainwreck Amy Winehouse's drug-riddled lifestyle was going to leave a serious dent in her professional career. So far, the damage was done slowly and rather inconspicuously – a messed-up appearance here, some mumbled song lyrics there, a couple of canceled concerts and lots of boozing up on stage – all these happened
gradually, complemented by almost daily features in the local and international tabloids and a slow but steady descent into heavy drugs. However, with a little help, Amy managed to honor at least some of her commitments, and as a result her career stumbled forward, more out of inertia than anything else. However, it has now emerged that Winehouse has canceled plans to start work on the recording of her third studio album, which means that we won't be seeing a new LP from her this year.
Amy's record label had booked the singer an all-expenses-paid trip to the Bahamas to begin working on her new album alongside producer Saleem Remi. However, at the last minute, Amy pulled out of the whole thing. "Island wanted to get her away from it all and thought it would be great surroundings for her. It was a very expensive trip and it was hoped they would make some decent progress recording the album. But Amy pulled out at the last minute. The album was planned for late 2008, but her label is now privately admitting it’s unlikely to happen until 2009," a friend of Amy's revealed to British tabloid The Sun. "She’s not the kind of artist you can just stick in the studio for a month and get an album done. And I now think early 2009 would be a good result".
Saleem Remi worked with Amy on both her debut album "Frank" and on her second LP "Back To Black". Although Amy already wrote a lot of new material for the album, she still hasn't managed to record anything. At the moment, the singer is also working on the theme for the new James Bond movie "Quantum of Solace" with her super-producer pal Mark Ronson, which means that the new album will be even further delayed by the troubled jazz diva. In the meantime, Amy's spare time – when she's not boozing or taking drugs, that is – is filled with another of her bizarre addiction: ironing. "She has become absolutely obsessed with ironing things. [...] She’s a very obsessive person and has always been addicted to something. We’ve had cannabis, cocaine, crack, heroin and her husband," a friend added. How about an addiction to taking showers then? That would definitely improve things.
