Amy Wino made an appearance on stage last night at the Mercury Awards which were held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London. And boy, does it feel good to write about her doing what she knows best - that is, sing (although judging by what has been going on lately, maybe taking drugs is not that far behind on the list either). And although she didn't get the big prize, she managed a brilliant performance of her single "Love Is A Losing Game", that was extremely well-received by the audience and made host Jools Holland state that "she has one of the best voices of anybody of all time".
Now, if we were to be really picky, we could say there were some downsides as well, of course, but again, by the usual standards that involve Winehouse this is all pretty much spare change. The biggest downside in my opinion was the fact that Amy showed up with her good-for-nothing drugged-out husband, with whom she kissed
almost non-stop and who - as usual - managed to look as if he had just escaped from a concentration camp and hadn't showered in a month).
The biggest progress was that Amy's dad Mitch was also there with her - and I have to say I do feel sorry for him. He was always a fierce defender of his daughter and it's a good thing that she gave him a little attention and showed him that his support is indeed important for her.
What shocked me the most, however, wasn't Blake's blank expression or Amy's (unfortunately) trademark beehive, but the strapless dress (I think) she wore and which looked as if it was made of several multicolored scarves ripped apart and then put back together again. Come on, Amy, you aren't exactly a fashion icon but I'm sure you can do better than that. I hope. But with that dress, her skinny frame and the tattoos covering her arms, the overall impression wasn't among the most fortunate.
It also seems that our darling Amy is a sour loser. According to witness reports, when the name of the winner was called out (the trophy was swiped by the cult band the Klaxons) she merely shrugged, while hubby Blake stood up and clapped with the rest of the audience.
After the winners were announced, Amy and her husband didn't linger and promptly left the hotel. Amy's dad afterwards stated that "she was very happy to be here. And I'm just thrilled she was here. She gave a brilliant performance and she looks well". I'm not exactly sure about the last part, but I suppose we could say that she looks better - which is, I admit, a definite improvement.
