I'm afraid to say that Amy Winehouse has lost that "adorable boozer" aura she had when she first became famous and the media discovered she was a legitimate drunk. And by "adorable" I don't mean "cute" or "sweet-looking" (two words for you: "beehive" and "eyeliner") - I just mean there was a time when she simply seemed more tame. Or less threatening, whatever you chose to look at it.
There was a time in which the press had a soft spot for Amy, and just treated her like a brilliant singer (which I personally believe she is) with a mild drinking problem. But over the past months, things have pretty much begun to get out of hand: Amy's weight plummeted, her drinking got worse and she basically turned into an emotionally unstable wreck. It all culminated in her being arrested for marijuana possession last week - and since then, despite promising to refrain from drinking before going on stage to perform, Amy managed to make a complete mess out of her European tour.
Amy, it seems, has a long list of troubles that include heavy alcohol and abuse and drug use, but also eating disorders. Amy's father Mitch reveals in an interview that despite things apparently looking up lately, Amy's troubles are far from over. "She's not drinking as heavily now as she was then actually but there are other problems" he said. "The other problem is the bulimia which is still apparent, although she's put on about a stone in weight but it's still affecting her health and there are problems with substance abuse as well". Yes, well, we had pretty much figured out the part with the substance abuse, but bulimia too? That's definitely not good news for the troubled singer. "She's eating, although the eating disorder hasn't been fully addressed. If you look at the photographs of her in August and see her now you will see a marked change for the better. But it's a change for the better, it isn't a cure", Mitch said.
And it seems that there's a very simple answer to the "why is Amy doing that much harm to herself?" question. "She was a complete opponent of hard drugs - in fact, she got up and said she couldn't understand why people in the music industry took hard drugs and that changed about six months ago when she got married to Blake". So, my suggestion is, lock Amy up in a room, force-feed her three times a day (but absolutely drop the McDonald's diet), kidnap Blake and buy him a house in the Sahara desert. That should solve it. Yes, I bet it will.
