Amy Winehouse will make official comeback with performance on Strictly Come Dancing

It’s no longer a secret that Amy Winehouse has been battling addiction, which has repeatedly put her comeback to the music scene on hold. Moreover, the singer is said to be having problems with her record label as far as the follow-up to her Grammy-winning “Back to Black” goes, which, again, put a damper on said comeback. All this is about to change this Saturday, when Winehouse will perform on Strictly Come Dancing in what is believed to be a first step towards her return on the scene, as NME puts it.

There is a catch to the performance, though, so fans might still have a long waiting ahead before actually seeing Amy back in the spotlight. She will not take to the stage to sing one of her many hits, the same music-oriented publication says. Instead of that, she will act as a backup singer for her goddaughter, the 13-year-old Dionne Bromfield, who is preparing to make her music debut with an album under Winehouse’s recently founded record label.

“Amy Winehouse is to make her first official public performance since her abandoned show at the St Lucia Jazz Festival last May on this Saturday’s (October 10) episode of Strictly Come Dancing. In the BBC One show, set to broadcast at 7pm (BST), Winehouse will perform as a backing singer for her goddaughter, 13 year-old Dionne Bromfield. Bromfield will sing her debut single, a cover of The Shirelles’ ‘Mama Said.’” NME reports.

As we also informed you the other day, Bromfield is the first artist to release an album under Winehouse’s newly founded label, Lioness, named like this in memory of her nan Cynthia. “Introducing Dionne Bromfield,” her goddaughter’s debut album, is meant to show that the label stands for “strength, pride and confidence,” while also relying on the tradition and support of Island Records, one of the biggest record labels in the world. Lioness is also Winehouse’s way of encouraging and promoting young artists that she believes in, her goddaughter also being one of them.

“Amy and I both love Strictly... so it was brilliant to find out I’ll be on TV for the first time singing on one of my favorite shows.” the young singer told BBC by means of confirmation, as NME also reports.
