Inquest determines singer died of acute alcohol intoxication, not drug overdose

The findings of the inquest into Amy Winehouse's death has finally been made public to the press: contrary to ongoing speculation, the singer did not overdose on drugs, but died of alcohol poisoning, it has emerged.

In August this year, authorities said that they believed Amy had been clean of drugs for months at the time of her death, adding that they had found no drug paraphernalia in the room she was found dead this summer.

This seemed to confirm what Amy's father, Mitch Winehouse, had also been saying all along: she knew for a fact his daughter had kicked her severe drug addiction and was working on quitting booze as well.

The Daily Mail reports that, the night of her death, Amy drank too much. In fact, the inquest has found, she literally drank herself to death.

“The inquest into her death was told she hit the bottle after being dry for three weeks and was poisoned by the alcohol,” the British tab writes.

After deciding to quit drinking, she fell off the wagon, went out and bought herself 3 bottles of vodka and drank it all.

“Recording a verdict of misadventure, the coroner told the inquest she had 416mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood. The driving limit is 80mg,” the Mail mentions.

“A post-mortem examination had found the Back To Black star's vital organs in good health and with no traces of illegal drugs. But she had huge amounts of alcohol in her system which could have stopped her breathing and sent her into a coma,” the tab says.

“The pathologist who conducted the post-mortem said at 200mg per deciliter (of blood), someone would lose control of their reflexes and 350mg was considered a fatal level,” adds the Mail.

Her bodyguard thought she was sleeping when he checked in on her late at night – and then left her for five hours to “rest.” She was probably dead already, says the report.

The irony in the findings of the inquest is that they confirm Mitch's previous claims: not only had Amy quit drugs, but she'd also ditched alcohol and had been completely sober for at least 2 weeks.
