Since Amy Winehouse’s tragic passing this summer, there’s been a lot of speculation as to whether and when a biopic would be made. Rumors picked up speed this week, with the release of her posthumous “Lioness: Hidden Treasures” album.

With the album shooting at the top of the charts, buzz is also picking up speed that a biopic is in the pipelines, the Daily Mail reports.

Admittedly, filmmaker Reg Traviss, who was dating Amy at the time of her death, has been approached to produce said biopic, but Amy’s own father is now telling fans it won’t happen.

As he sees it, a biopic wouldn’t be worthy of being called so if it didn’t feature Amy’s music – and he has no plans of licensing it for the film.

“It would hardly be a biopic without the music and we’d never allow the songs to be released,” Mitch says in a statement to the Mail.

The British tabloid hints that Mitch’s planned biography of his daughter’s life might have something to do with his decision not to license her music for a film.

Nevertheless, in previous statements Mitch has said that all proceeds from the book will go to charity, specifically to the Amy Winehouse Foundation set up shortly after her death, with the aim to help others battle addiction.

“Let me remind you. All profits to the foundation. Do you know how many kids will benefit form that money?” Mitch said a while back, as cited by the Mail.

“The plan is to help all children – not just rehabilitation, not just substance abuse. It's to help all children in need,” he added.

For the time being, no official announcement on a so-called Amy Winehouse biopic has been made. Still, if a studio does decide to make the film, it would first have to go through Mitch to get the rights to her music.
