If we needed one more proof of the fact that drugged-out celebrities cause pain and chaos in the lives of all those who live with them, this is it. And this time, it's (again) the case of our favorite talented but most of the times completely wasted druggie, Amy Winehouse. Her father, Mitch, reveals to the press that two months ago, when Amy was rushed to the hospital because of an overdose, he was so convinced she was going to die that he even had a eulogy prepared for her. And while to some this may seem an extreme gesture, I must say that it's much more of a warning than any other gesture could be - not to mention extremely emotional.
Why he's going public with it - that is another story. Some people have accused him of media whoring, and have said that once he got a taste of the spotlight, Mitch simply wants more of that. But the truth is, even if at some level, this might be true, it may also be a way of getting rid of some of the emotional stress and unwinding after the daily tension of knowing that his daughter is married to a notorious drug user, is a serious drug abuser herself and may virtually die at any moment.
"I know newspapers have obituaries ready for people - well, I'd written one. When Amy had her seizure and was taken to hospital, I really thought that could be it. The doctors told us even a whiff of another drug could kill her". Therefore, it must be even more frustrating and frightening to know that Amy - while not taking any steps towards curing herself - is also permanently around a man who will only feed her more drugs. "When I found out Blake had given her more drugs after that [overdose], I couldn't believe it. It was as bad as someone holding a gun to my daughter's head", Mitch says.
"Blake is a bad influence on her and I no longer toe the line and pretend he isn't. Until he came along she was staunchly anti hard drugs. For Amy and Blake to beat their drug problems, they have to go into rehab separately, and he won't let her do that". Yes, well, this will sound mean but of course he won't let her do that - in the end, he's unemployed, accustomed to a lavish lifestyle and drugs are expensive, and Amy has definitely been Blake's meal ticket over the past year. And even though the newspapers have been writing about Amy a lot lately and this subject was dealt with repeatedly, there is no such thing as a too big dose of warning when it comes to life-threatening drug abuse. So stay clean, Wino - and stick to the music, you're great at it.
