Windows Web App Gallery has grown with the addition of a new web-based application: AmpliFeeder. Designed as a distributed social activity aggregator, AmpliFeeder is capable of centralizing all user activities from specific websites, message boards, and even social networks into a single online location. The app is offered as a free download, under the GNU Affero General Public License (AGPL), a version of the GNU GPL. Despite being advertised as open source, the actual source code for AmpliFeeder is not yet available for download, but it will be released in the near future. For the time being, AmpliFeeder has been included into Microsoft's Windows Web App Gallery.

“You are no longer defined by your activity on just one website, message board or social network. Every photograph you upload, every page you bookmark or share, every tweet you twitter helps to define you just a little bit more. AmpliFeeder pulls all of your online activity into one place to display a new aggregated you, redefining ideas of what a blog or personal page should be,” revealed Microsoft's Mark Brown, quoting the description of AmpliFeeder.

Of course that, having been included in the Windows Web App Gallery, AmpliFeeder requires a backend of Microsoft technologies in order to function. In this context, the requirements for the distributed social activity aggregator are ASP.NET 3.5, IIS 6 or IIS 7, SQL Server 2005 or SQL Server 2005 Express or SQL Server 2008 or SQL Server 2008 Express.

AmpliFeeder allows you to “combine and archive your activity from lots of different services. Adding new services is a complete breeze,” Brown added. “AmpliFeeder is built to make theming and personalisation as simple as possible with standard XHTML & CSS. [The aggregator comes with support for:] Flickr, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Google Shared Items, Tumblr, Digg, Reddit, LastFM, Stumbleupon, Delicious, Upcoming, Mixx & more.”
