Not very much is known about the four GSM handhelds Amoi has just presented for the time being, except for a couple a features the phones will include.

The four Windows Mobile 5.0 powered devices with Microsoft Direct Push technology will come equipped with up to 2 megapixel digital cameras, Bluetooth (with stereo support) and GPRS/EDGE connectivity.

According to the press release, Amoi E72 ( featured in the photo) will have a price tag of less than $250, and will probably be one of the lowest priced Windows Mobile 5.0 powered mobile phones in China. Imagine that: a world where anyone would be able to afford a Windows Mobile 5.0 powered device. It seems that this might be Amoi's goal, considering the fact that Amoi presented all the four handhelds, at the ITU Telecom World 2006 event in Hong Kong, as being affordably priced to target the mass market audience.

The prices for Amoi E75, E76 and E78 have not been announced so far, but they are expected to be revealed soon. Setting such a low price for these smartphones is possible mainly due to Amoi's partnership with Microsoft and Texas Instrument.

"Our partnership with Microsoft and Texas Instrument has allowed us to offer the Windows Mobile smart phone experience at lower price points", said Li Xiaozhong, president of Amoi Electronics.

The use of Texas Instrument technology in the four Amoi smartphones does not mean low-cost devices, but it promises high-performance multimedia performance and low power consumption.

All devices will be launched in January 2007 in China and there is no hint that they may ever be released anywhere else.
