Thomas Grip, the leader of the Frictional Games studio best known for creating the Amnesia series, says that even mature games offer core gameplay mechanics that can be understood by a ten-year-old player.

Speaking to Beefjack, the developer says, “Take just about any big game release and the core concepts of that game something that a ten-year old can enjoy.”

Grip believes that development teams should try to explore more complex gameplay mechanics in their future projects.

He adds, “There is nothing wrong with having games that are ageless. But when just about every game released is like this, I think it is a sign that something is wrong.”

Frictional Games has been interested in creating experiences that are equivalent to those offered by movies and books and the Amnesia series has been widely praised for its attention to detail and the genuine scares that it delivers to players.
