Americans Have “the Right to Be Stupid,” Says State Secretary John Kerry
Kerry makes a point about protecting ignorance during a discussion on free speech
U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry “lives and breathes” for defending Americans' rights which, according to him, include the right to being stupid. The point was made during Kerry's speech advocating political and religious freedom and tolerance. The clip posted above shows how the lawmaker introduces the point about Americans' right to stupidity as he is making an argument about public demonstrations and free speech.
“In America, you have a right to be stupid, if you want to be. [...] And you have a right to be disconnected to somebody else if you want to be. And we tolerate that - we somehow make it through that,” he says.
He goes on to add that it's something worth fighting for, even referring to ignorance as a “virtue.”
I'm sure many now wish that Kerry didn't have the right to speak freely. Don't forget to leave your opinion in the comments section.
