Only yesterday, Mitt Romney (i.e. American businessman and politician) launched a most vicious attack against environmental protection and green-oriented technologies, arguing that President Obama's current energy policies will take down the country's economy sooner than expected.

As far as he is concerned, the US needs to focus on reaching energy independence not by promoting the use of renewable sources, but by boosting the fossil fuels industries. Thus, his opinion is that the US can only reach economic and energy security if its domestic oil, gas and coal production increases.

The document Mitt Romney and his team drafted in order to support their cause reads: “Unfortunately, the first three years of the Obama administration have witnessed energy and environmental policies that have stifled the domestic energy sector."

The argument continues, "In thrall to the environmentalist lobby and its dogmas, the President and the regulatory bodies under his control have taken measure to limit energy exploration and restrict development in ways that sap economic performance, curtail growth, and kill jobs.”

Furthermore, the Republican politician believes that, for the time being at least, the green technologies that President Obama is trying to implement on a national scale are far too expensive when compared to the benefits they yield, reports Business Green.

As well as this, regardless of how many new green jobs are created as a result of these environmentally friendly energy policies, much more are destroyed as the old energy sector finds its activities ever more restricted by new rules and regulations.

Speaking about the two major energy sources that he wishes to push forward, Mitt Romney argued that, “Oil is obviously one of our most crucial energy resources and the single most important fuel for our transportation needs. (…) Coal is American's most abundant energy source.”

Last, but not least, Mitt Romney accuses the US President of having an “unhealthy obsession for green jobs,” and states that recent major investments in the field of renewable energy sources are by no means the result of a true concern for the wellbeing of the environment and the economic future of the country.

Quite the contrary: they are first and foremost intended to yield profits for the companies developing and selling them.
