American Portwell recently announced that the company has expanded its COM Express Type 2 product portfolio to include a new solution that is compatible with Intel's second-generation Core processors, code named Sandy Bridge.
The board is compatible with the quad-core Intel Core i7-2710QE processor, that comes clocked at 2.1GHz and can reach speeds up to 3GHz in Turbo Mode, as well as with the 2.5GHz Core i5-2510E dual-core CPU.
Outside of Intel's latest chips, the PCOM-B217VG board also supports up to 16GB of dual-channel DDR3 memory, via the two SO-DIMM slots installed, and a PCI Express x1 add-on card.
The rest of the specs list include one IDE and four SATA ports (two 6Gbps and two 3Gbps ports), one Intel 82579LM Gigabit Ethernet PHY controller with AMT 7.0, and eight USB ports.
The board’s characteristics can be further enhanced with the installation of a wide assortment of expansion options, including various PCI-E x16 Gen. 2.0 add-on cards as well as LPC, SMBus/12C and high definition audio interface cards.
“Timely support of the latest Intel silicon is critical in the competitive COM Express module market,” notes Jimmy Chang, American Portwell’s product marketing manager.
“By powering this COM module with second generation Intel Core i7/i5
processors and QM67 platform with integrated graphics, we are not only able to support DX10+ but also enhance low power HD
video playback.
“Turbo Boost technology enables us to maximize important CPU and graphics performance and we have extended that commitment to speed by designing the architecture of the physical module and carrier boards to speed up time-to-market for custom-made applications,” concluded the company's rep.
No details regarding pricing and availability were disclosed at this time, but a quote can be obtained from the company's website.
American Portwell says it will offer at least seven years of support for the PCOM-B217VG board.
