American McGee is one of the most recognizable brands in the gaming world, despite the relatively limited success of the games he has launched, but the developer says that he did not want to have a distinctive name at first.

Speaking to Gamespot, he says, “Initially, the decision was driven by marketing and legal at EA. They were simply looking for a way to protect (make unique) the title for the original Alice game.”

He also adds that his titles have attracted a loyal group of fans who are ready to try out new titles that he is creating.

At the moment, American McGee is working with Spicy Horse in order to create Akaneiro: Demon Hunters, an action role-playing video game that mixes Japanese mythology with the character of Red Riding Hood.
