Ruben Studdard, winner of American Idol and singer dubbed in the media as “The Velvet Teddy Bear,” has officially joined the cast of the upcoming season of The Biggest Loser on NBC.

As the Los Angeles Times points out, Studdard is the first celebrity to join the ranks of regular Janes and Joes looking for professional help for their weight problem.

Whether his celebrity status will tip the balance in his favor in certain situations is the question everyone’s thinking of asking right now.

“Will Studdard get the celebrity treatment at the ranch? Will the other competitors feel compelled to treat him differently? Will he arrive with his own cook, cellphone access and driver?” the publication asks.

“Or will trainers Bob Harper, Dolvett Quince and Jillian Michaels treat him like everyone else?” the LA Times further writes.

I will keep you posted with Studdard’s progress. In the meantime, above is a video of his performance of “Flying Without Wings” on AI.
