14 DAY TRIAL // When Cristina Aguilera did at the Superbowl last year, the world was shocked and outraged: how could she forget the lyrics to the national anthem? The same happened to Lauren Alaina just recently, but to a somewhat less outraged reaction.
The American Idol runner-up for season 10 kicked off the Detroit Lions vs. Green Bay Packers game with a rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner,” but things didn't go as smoothly as planned.
At the 35-second mark, Alaina forgets the words and simply trails off for a few seconds. “What so proudly we hailed, through the twi…” she sings.
And then there's complete silence.
A few seconds later, Alaina recovers and manages to finish the song with a brave smile, but audiences at home are not won over by it.
Some voices online are saying such a flub is unacceptable and no amount of nerves can justify forgetting the words to the national anthem.
Then again, she is only human after all.
