Jennifer Lopez’s movie career receives unexpected boost from stint on American Idol

There’s no longer any doubt about how much Jennifer Lopez profited from her one-year stint on American Idol, but a recent report suggests that she’s not even begun to reap the benefits. She’s been offered two major film roles.

Undoubtedly, fans must know that Lopez’s foray in the movie industry was not always welcomed with the most positive reviews, with some critics even saying she was only doing films because she was “bored” of having so much success with her music.

Like many other pop stars, Jennifer kept trying to forge a successful career in film and eventually seemed to have given up – but American Idol has come to change all that, Deadline says.

Whereas, until not long ago, she was mostly wanted for roles in standard rom-coms, Lopez is now wanted for an action movie, which will hopefully turn out to be the foundation of a new franchise.

“I’m told that Lopez is in discussions to play the female lead opposite Jason Statham in Parker, the Taylor Hackford-directed action film adaptation of the Donald Westlake mystery novel series,” deadline says.

The British actor would play the main lead, Parker, a thief you’d better not be messing with. Lopez is being courted for the female lead, Parker’s love interest.

“John J. McLaughlin wrote the script and Steve Chasman is producing with Kimmel, Hackford, Les Alexander and Jonathan Mitchell. Lopez plays the female lead, a character named Leslie, who gets involved with Parker as he executes a heist,” Deadline reports.

Moreover, the studio is hoping the film, scheduled to go in production this August, will be successful enough to warrant at least two sequels.

If Lopez is not interested right now in doing action films, she certainly has the possibility to choose something else, by opting for a role in a romantic comedy, a genre she’s already familiar with.

“Lopez is also circling What To Expect When You’re Expecting, the Kirk Jones-directed Lionsgate film based on the bestselling how-to guide to preparing for childbirth,” Deadline informs.

“Cameron Diaz and Matthew Morrison star. Lopez is in discussions for the supporting role of Holly in that film,” the same media outlet says.

So far, Lopez hasn’t decided yet. Neither has she made any announcement about whether she plans to return to American Idol for another season or make the most of the boost in popularity and branch out.
