David Beckham needs no presentation. He is one of the most famous soccer players in Europe and a marketing icon worldwide. When it comes to Asia, the Beckham-mania knows almost no boundaries. But there is one place on Earth where people know David Beckham to be only a very famous sportsman. That place is America.

No surprise there. After all the most appreciated sports in the US are football, basketball, baseball and racing. Soccer has a growing popularity, but it still does not compare. In fact, America is the only place on Earth where this sport is called soccer. As for the rest of the planet, everybody else knows, plays and loves football.

All around the world, football is considered the most important sport around. It is somewhat close to a religion in some countries. That sort of passion is currently absent in the US, which is why it is understandable that the England right midfielder David Beckham is known by almost everybody in Europe and western Asia, while in America he is just another famous personality.

And it is this very aspect that David Beckham aims to change by coming to play for the US outfit of Los Angeles Galaxy. Let's briefly consider his motivation. From the financial point of view, he is filthy rich, but that doesn't mean that he is going to refuse the astronomical salary that LA Galaxy is giving him. Grab a hold of something and read this: Beckham is gonna be paid more than $258 million for five seasons.

He and "Posh" wife Victoria recently celebrated 8 years of marriage. The couple have three boys together: Brooklyn (8), Romeo (4) and Cruz (2). It's pretty safe to say that he and his family are set for life. So the only thing that's left for him to consider is his personal career. Let's see: he's already won the League Championships both in England and in Spain, with Manchester United and Real Madrid respectively. While at Man Utd, he also won the UEFA Champions League. So basically he has won everything there is in Europe. I guess Beckham needs a new challenge.

Well, upon hearing that David Beckham is coming to play in America, the US interest in football has grown exponentially. The LA Galaxy managers are already cashing in their huge investment through the massive merchandising that the name of David Beckham ensures. In fact, the official website of the Los Angeles Galaxy has a clock that shows the number of days, hours, minutes and seconds until David Beckham's official presentation in a LA Galaxy jersey. See for yourselves.
