In times when an eco-friendly attitude is necessary in trying to solve the alarming issues such as global warming, high levels of energy consumption or potential exhaustion of traditional sources of energy, the American nation still seems to be unable to decrease its significant appetite for gas.

The American passion for large vehicles that are permanently gas-hungry costs a lot and might determine the nation to depend entirely on oil imports, in the near future.

Even though we all benefit nowadays from the usage of high technology, it is obvious that fuel economy is a lot less productive than it used to be in the 80's.

Despite the fact that all developments seem to work in our favor, the new kinds of diesel engines prove to be unable to pass the test of efficiency.

Studies led to show their performance have stated the fact that these components are actually dirty and inefficient, for they use less than a third out of the resources they process in order to obtain energy, and they waste the rest.

Therefore, 1/3 of a gallon of gas is being used in reality, and 2/3 represents nothing else than a waste of money. It is a great loss, if we put the matter into perspective and think about the fact that cars, and big vehicles need approximately 8.7 million barrels of oil for their daily usage.

If we expand this issue by taking into consideration the rates of American oil consumption, the theory regarding American potential oil dependency on imports seems very realistic. Studies led by researchers have proven that car owners and companies use more energy than they really need in order to be efficient.

US oil consumption has increased by 16% in 12 years, from the beginning of the 90's. It started from a decent level of 17 million barrels per day in 1990, hitting an alarming rate of 20 million barrels per day in present times. This matter influenced a great deal the market of oil imports. As a consequence, it has experienced a major growth of 55%.

Also, researchers have announced that, if this matter isn't solved somehow throughout imposing new regulations, America will depend entirely on oil imports by 2025. This issue should be taken seriously since it has been established that America is paying $300,000 per minute for oil coming from foreign countries.

Instead of keeping up with the demand of oil, US should just buy less and less oil. When gas prices skyrocketed a year or two ago, everyone suddenly became green conscious. Suddenly people were forced to carpool, get gas efficient cars, bike to work, etc. US car companies will be forced to invent alternative fueled cars like electric.
