Samsung is, without a shadow of a doubt, one of the world's best-known innovators in the field of displays solutions, and now, it seems that they've really managed to outdo themselves once more, coming up with a transparent LCD display.

So, as the guys over at ITProPortal report, it seems that the Korean company has showcased during CeBIT 2011 a very special type of display, that's not only transparent, but also gets the power it needs for normal operation from the surrounding environment.

And if you've thought that this was pretty cool, well, then you should know that the surprises don't end here, given the fact that the aforementioned display also supports Full HD, 1920 x 1080 pixels resolutions, while in the same time being multi-touch enabled, being in fact capable of detecting up to 10 different finger presses.

For the time being, this device remains in prototype stage, but according to Samsung, it might actually make it into finite products at some point in the near future, although smaller display sizes will most likely be used in the first products to become commercially-available.

If we take a moment to think about it, the range of applications of such a display would be absolutely impressive, and although specific digital signage solutions are the first that come to mind, the truth of the matter is that we might actually get to see such products becoming quite popular with mainstream consumers as well.

Plus, should Samsung decide to pair its 3D display technology with this transparent display technology, the results would be quite spectacular (to say the least).

Of course, these are only speculations for the time being, and only time will tell exactly what Samsung plans to do with this tech, or whether it will remain forever just an eye-popping prototype.
