Amber Portwood Blasts Kim Kardashian: You’re Not the One to Talk

Kim Kardashian gets trashed by Amber Portwood: who are you to talk of being a role model?
Enlarge picture
Kim Kardashian accused shows like MTV’s “Teen Mom” of the increasing number of teens getting pregnant, saying these girls are not role models. “Teen Mom” star Amber Portwood is now fighting back, saying Kim should know her place.

The socialite was recently on The Today show to promote the latest season of her reality show, which is also when she learned of the case of a high school in Memphis where 90 girls had become pregnant or moms in the past year.

Completely ignoring the fact that statistics show that, overall in the US the rate of teen pregnancies is on the decline, Kim went to her official blog and her Twitter to urge her fans to look beyond the glamour of these girls / teen moms on TV.

“It seems that shows like Teen Mom are all of a sudden making teen pregnancy seem cool in the eyes of young girls,” she wrote her blog, as per E! Online.

“The kids from these shows are all over the news, even on the covers of magazines, and have been become almost like celebrities, but girls, these are not people you should idolize!” she urged her female fans.

“Having a baby is one of the biggest, and most life-changing decisions a person can make and while I’m not saying that no teen is in the position to raise a child, having a baby so young shouldn’t be seen as the trendy thing to do,” she added.

As expected, Portwood is very upset about the things Kim has to say – because she completely missed the point. If anything, “Teen Mom” sheds some light into how hard it is to be a teen mom and sounds off the alarm, it doesn’t glamorize anything.

Secondly, Portwood says, who’s Kim to be speaking of role models? Is this not the same person that kick-started her career by selling a home made tape that she later claimed it was stolen, she asks. If so, then she has no right to pass judgment.

“If you read the articles about the show, they do nothing but talk about how the show reveals how hard it is for all of us. It doesn’t glamorize anything! It shows the heartache we’ve all gone through,” Portwood says.

“We may be ‘celebrities’ because our face is out there, but it’s only because we’ve done some bad things. That’s not glamorous,” she adds.

I agree with Kim! Sure "Teen Mom" shows how hard it is to have a baby so young, but the young girls watching the show are most likely thinking "I could do it better, it wouldn't be this hard for me".
Also, knowing the fact that the "teen moms" make around 280,000 a year is the icing on the cake. Sure, Amber, I'm sure its hard for you, but there are people all over this country who were careful, didnt get pregnant, finished school and can't find a job that pays much more than minimum wage!
If I was still a teen, the attention, fame, and salary would be enough to make me think it is a good idea to get pregnant and call up MTV

Sounds like you are a bit jelous of the teen moms "just me". Do you really wanna go back and do what they have done? Wow, you bash them for what they are doing but regret not doing it to have their life style... idiot!
i agree with Amber, Kim sold a sex tape and otherwise would only be known bc of her father, so who is she to judge, just as yourself....
The girls were offered to educate teens of the outcomes to sex in an ustable relationship. I dont think they make their lives look amazing by allmeans. However, they spenda a lot of their time reaching out to tape the show and they deserve to get compensated.

I agree with Portwood! She is the one that shouldn't be a role model with a new athlete every other month and making sex tapes. Half naked photos shouldnt be idiolized.

SHE IS SO RIGHT TO SAY IT TO GIRLS. MAKE A BABY IS NOT THE SAME IS BUY A DOLL AT A TOY STORE. IT IS A PERMANENT LIFE IN YOUR LIFE, IT COST A LOT OF MONEY TO RAISE A CHILD. PARENTS SHOULD TALK TO GIRLS AND BOYS ABOUT IT EVERY DAY IN A FRIENDLY WAY.

All you people agreeing with Kim k. you should be ashame because this girl plays her life out on TV. How can she give anyone advice. I don't agree with teen pregnancy, but that's one person I wouldn't listen too. Look at her reality show on TV how they disrepect their mom. They discuss sex and as you can see, is anyone using protection? Her sister (Kourtney) had a baby out of wedlock. On one episode when they where in Miami the sister (Kourtney) with the baby was outside having sex. These people are showing this on TV. Kim is not on TV saying they shouldn't be doing that. Look in the mirror first before giving advice. They are kissing other women, but this is being shown on TV people. Lamar and (Chloe) does not shy away from the camera either. So before she can give advice look at the whole family. This show (Teen Mom) is telling young ladies what life is about and how they will struggle being so young having kids. People wake up and look at who is giving an opinon.

I think the Kardashians are the LAST people to slam anyone!!! They are not perfect as they would like everyone to think. I think "Teen Mom" is a very good show. I watch it with my 17 year old daughter and some of her friends have come over at times to watch it also and I have heard them say "Wow, that would really suck to be pregnant that young and miss out on so much stuff" so the show is doing what I believe it set out to do (at least for my daughter and her friends)....teach teenagers how hard it is and what you do miss out on if you get pregnant. Kim Kardashian needs to worry about herself.

Kim is such a loser. A fame * . My daughter is pregnant at twenty one and she says teen mom scares the crap out of her because it is so real. What does Kim give to the public? Nothing but flaunting her money wiggling her * in tight clothes and showing us a lot of unnecessary cleavage. She is the one who should be taken off the air permanently.

Kim, you may be right about MTV "glamorizing" teen pregnancy; however, I was appaled when your mother rooted you on in front of a crowd, while you were dancing on a pole, or were you in a bathtub...You may have been over the age of 18, shocking is shocking...

Amber Portwood has an extremely valid point. The young girls on teen mom experience many hardships, including setbacks on their education because of the poor choices they've made. Kim K. has become famous only because she as well as her family are just goof-offs and provide entertainment.

Comment #12 by: hatesmtv on 20 Jan 2011, 22:10 UTC reply to this comment

Why is Amber still getting publicity? All this stupid show proves is that having a baby DOES NOT make you a mother- nor does getting a giant terribly done tattoo. These girls should be having their kids taken away- not being filmed for everyone to see.

Comment #12.1 by: realtalk on 21 Jan 2011, 13:18 GMT

If you really watched the show you will see that most of the girls on there is doing a great job raising their child. It is no one decision to judge these girls on their parenting skills some of them or just not use to the fact that they have a big responsibility yet two of them especially. I see this every day 12 and up pregnant and they are not even mature enough to take care of a baby i had my child when i was 19 and it still was hard for me but i grew up and took care of mine just wait and see most of these will be great mothers. IM DOWN WITH TEEN MOM I THINK IT'S A GREAT SHOW! they are basically trying to show teens not to have a baby so young! Some people just dont understand that.

How many teen moms receive government assistance? That is WIC, medicaid to pay for your child's healthcare, food stamps, etc? Taxpayers are tired of supporting these teen parents. Plus what I have seen of these teen moms is that they are horrible parents. Yesterday I saw a teen mom leave her sleeping baby in an adult bean bag. A big no no due to suffocation issues. Teens simply do not have the wisdom to be good parents because they lack the maturity and life experiences. If they possessed these skills they wouldn't get pregnant in the first place. Plus Teen Mom shows alot of very vulgar language and anger around the babies, a good example of their lack of wisdom. Amber is an embarassment to the state of Indiana with her criminal behavior.
Kim Kardashian may not be the virgin Mary but at least she has never been a burden on the taxpayers. I highly doubt Teen Mom will help prevent teen pregnancy. What will prevent it is providing birth control, making the boys be more responsible and eliminating welfare support to teen moms.

Comment #19 by: cm on 20 Jan 2011, 23:52 UTC reply to this comment

I totally and completely agree with Amber Portwood. I'm 51 with 4 sons and had my first child at the age of 18. I don't regret having my children because I love them dearly, but I was too young and unprepared when I became pregnant with my first child. I wish a show like "Teen Mom" had been around at that time because it would have given me some kind of idea about how hard having a child at age 18 would be. "Teen Mom" is a good program and in no way glamorizes teen pregnancy. If anything it gives teen girls a better perspective of the outcome of promiscuous behavior and hopefully guide them to take a different path. Kim Kardasian has no right to critisize the show. Like Amber stated, "Is this not the same person that kick-started her career by selling a home made tape that she later claimed it was stolen".

Teen mom is to show that it is not easy to raise a kid. It is awarness but of course kim would say that cause she is not the one that is on the magazine and they are. The show is to help teens not do it. Gosh people just dont get the concept.

Amber is completely right. The MTV show is helping young girls realize that being a teenage Mom is not easy. The Kardashians show, on the other hand, shows nothing but rudeness, disrespect, and using the word- like- a dozen times in one sentence, so annoying!!!

I absolutely agree with Kim. These girls are being idolized by teens all over the U.S. Watching these kind of shows only encourages teens to think having a baby "might be fun". "Maybe I'll become famous", or "Maybe I could make a lot of money by becoming a teen mom". Not only am I sickened by these type of shows, but also the fact that I and many millions of other hard working people are paying for these teen moms

Kim is right to warned girls esp. when a lot of them look up to her. Voicing her opinion may make a difference and it is true that MTV may not intend to glamourize teen moms but they are getting it nonetheless. Amber shouldn't get upset....her name is all over the news. Teen moms reality show= $$.

Comment #32 by: Ce Ce on 21 Jan 2011, 05:32 UTC reply to this comment

Watch out Kim, because Amber is mad. I understand that the show is to make known the hardships of being a teen mom,but the truth be told some teens can't handle shows like that. Some individuals are weak minded and want to become apart of something like that for attention and fame no matter the cost. I have never seen the show myself, but there are different ways to bring attention to teen pregnancy without it becoming an on going reality show. I must say that Kim is entitled to her opinion and her pass is her pass. What Kim does is her business and it is up to the parents to set good standards and be the first and only role models in their children lives. Not reality T.V. not Kim, Paris, or Miley.

For once I agree with Ms.Portwood! She is not trying to sound like she is cool for having a baby at such a young age but just saying who is kim to talk?
She can say stuff like that because she made her money from her sex tape. We all see all of the mistakes Amber went thru and learned from because she made the mistake of having sex at such a young age. Why is she saying * * like that because at 30 or whatever age she is she asent had any kids or a stable family. We all have problems and no one is perfect but should make the most of it. And think that we should do that. Kim had a sex video and made the best of it and some cash on the side. Amber fell in love and had a beautiful baby girl that she is learning to be a great mother to. We have to figure out are own * in life and make the best of it! No one is perfect!

i really don't see anything wrong with what Kim is saying, because everytime you watch Teen mom you see how rude they behave to their parent(s) who try to help them with their kids. i think bad for our kids to watch Teen Mom

Comment #36 by: Sahara on 21 Jan 2011, 12:11 UTC reply to this comment

I was 16 when I got pregnant. It wasn't planned and I certainly didn't see it as glamorous. I became single soon after finding out. Being a single parent, I had to do a lot of growing up. It was hard but I got through it. My daughter is now 7. I wouldn't take back anything because I have the pleasure of knowing the greatest person in the world. I feel for these girls. It's not fair how people stereotype teen parents. Teen parents need support (and that doesn't necessarily mean welfare). I was able to graduate, get a good paying job, and so far complete 3 years of college because of the support I received. Kim certainly has no room to judge. Sex appeal is what keeps her in the business. That kinda behavior, in my opinion, glamorizes sex more than Teen Mom ever would.

Portwood should be upset because she is a perfect example of how not to become a teen mom. If she wasn't passed out on the couch talking trash to her babies' daddy then she was somewhere trashed all together. She is one teenager who should have never had a baby. She is way too immature and was not ready to be a parent to a child. Gary did the right thing taking that child away from her deadbeat $#$. I side with Kim 100%, that show makes it look glamorous and by even making it a reality show was not one of the smartest productions that they could have came up with. I guess girls are hoping by having a baby that they can get a shot on being featured on the show.

I have to agree with Kim Kardashian being a teen mom isn't the way to go and it shouldn't be sensationalized as it is. Although the TV show may not be trying to convey the message that it's ok to be a teen mom nevertheless not all teens will comprehend this as such. So to Ms Portwood please don't try to fight Ms Kardashian on this subject she is definitely the pinnacle of success.

Comment #41 by: smith on 21 Jan 2011, 14:15 UTC reply to this comment

Ahhhh come on-all the people on both sides of this argument seem to be losers. "I want $$" "I want attention" "I want my boyfriend to hang around so I got knocked up" And I will sell my soul to the devil (or MTV or whatever cable channel wants me) to get there. Teen Mom does indeed show the difficulties of being a knocked up teen, but it does glamorize it by encouraging probably more drama by having cameras there. It is not all REAL.

Just curious, what could someone have said or done to stop you from getting pregnant at 16? Everyone I know who had children before the age of 25 says they wish they had waited. And every woman I know who was a teen mom has had a fairly miserable life, totally regretting their choices. They love their kids and grandkids but if they could get a do over, they would not have had sex as a teen. Just makes you wonder why kids still don't get it? I know hormones are raging but the fear of messing up my life kept me a virgin until I was 22 and a college graduate.

I feel that the "Teen Mom" show that these young ladies, not all but some of them are not fit to be parents! Exspeically Amber, and Leah you both should be ashamed of yourselves. I was a teen mom and i sure did not act like that towards my mother. Your mother Leah did not put you in that position. You did it to yourself. Amber you should also apoligize to Gary, you treated him like crap and you showed everyone that you are a bad mother. Teen pregnancy is not a good thing and the show does show the bad but it also lets you think If these girls can do it, then we can. It is alot of hard work and if you are going to get knocked up the get a job and do it for yourself. I did it with state assistance and so can you. Amber and Leah grow up and do what is right and give up your children to the person who will be there for them and take care of them. When raisin a child you forget you self, it is all about the chlldren and their needs. That you are not ready to do.

amber needs to shut up.her life is a mess.high school drop out.an abuser.child neglect ,the list goes on on .The show teen mom make some stupid teenage girls in the usa thinks they can get on tv for being a teenage mom.thats a fact but sad. These teenagers live in a country like usa where birth control is free and they dont use it.they should be treated like girls in the caribbean.kick out of school once you get pregnant.they shouldnt be parading at school being pregnant.Parents stop letting your kids being the adults. They are not the boss in the house.

Yes it is hard to be a teen mom, but how is it that kim is right? look at her own family! doesnt her own sister have a child out of wedlock? and who really takes care of him??? Wait wasnt she in playboy and wasnt she married not 1 time but 2!!!! and the second was a scam! i think she is jelous its not easy i know from experience! But my husband and i work our butts off to have what we have for our family! I feel a child is a blessing even if it is at a young age, yes i would reccomed everyone wait because you gove up everything but I wouldnt change anything in my own life, just struggle a lil harder!

I agree with Amber - Kim isn't a role model. She became famous from having a sex tape, being naked in playboy, and putting her name on anything she can get her hands on. Kim is the biggest Money Hungry Fame * out there. She would put her name on a package of bacon if they offered her money. I refuse to buy or watch anything with the Kardashian name on it. I try not to support the people out there doing nothing and getting paid for it, its not easy but worth it. I suggest other people do the same thing!

Wow!!!! Where are these girls parents and why the F aren't they teaching their children that being teen parents is not cool in any way shape or form??? I'm pretty sure that if these girls had a strong family background and parents that actually gave a sh*t about them they wouldn't be getting there birds and the bees info from MTV OR Kim Kardashian!!!

Bottom line they are both losers that are semi famouse for being Imbeciles its sad that sociaty now days bring talentless **** for brains like this to quasi stardom giving them thousands of dollars to spew their brain cell killing thoughts and antics while teachers, firefighters, police, and soldiers barely make what their contribution to sociaty is worth. Time to rethink our culture people.

I think Amber is right! Being a teen mom myself I feel like this would lowr the chances of pregnancy, Kim really needs to take a step back and look at her and her family they do everything for money, wasnt her marriage a scam??? Wasnt she in playboy??? Didnt her sister have a child out of wedlock Hmmmm so what type of role model does that make her? People can pass judgment all day but in this case I beleive that Kim is sad because she is out of the spotlight??? hmm ur call!
