Amber Heard and Johnny Depp were first linked romantically in the press while they were still working on the critically panned “The Rum Diary” but, until recently, they refused to offer the media any reason to believe the rumors were founded.

Though they have been photographed together repeatedly in the past several months, and she even accompanied him and his kids with Vanessa Paradis on a promotional trip to Japan, Amber is still refusing to talk about the romance.

As she puts it in a new interview with Flare magazine cited by Us Weekly, it’s her right to keep her personal life private.

Just because she’s in the public eye doesn’t mean she has to play along and reveal everything about herself, she says. This also includes her relationship with Depp.

“It’s not part of my professional life,” she says of that.

“I want to be an artist. I don’t want to be a celebrity,” Amber continues, drawing a very strict line between what she will and won’t disclose for the press.

She can’t prevent the paparazzi from tailing her and taking her picture but, beyond that, she’s not willing to give away anything more.

“You can find pictures of me [on the Internet] pumping gas, picking up dry cleaning, walking my dog, but nowhere are you going to find pictures of me hanging around at some nightclub…,” she explains.

“Can you ever imagine yourself in a situation like Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie or Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, where the world feels like they have a stake in your private life? I would never want it,” Amber adds.

She also says that she refuses to change anything about her life just because she’s always hounded by the paps, or plagued by rumors in the weeklies and the tabloids.

So far, Johnny too has kept quiet on the romance. He did, however, hint in a recent interview that he was planning on retiring from the industry at a moment he thought “not too far away.”
