The gorilla pictured above first rose to fame back in 2011, when a video showing it walking around much like a human was posted online. According to media reports, the footage, available below, has since been viewed millions of times, so I suppose it is safe to assume that the ape is pretty popular.

This April 14, Ambram, as this gorilla is named, is back in the spotlight, but not because it has learned some other odd behavior bound to amaze people. On the contrary, the ape is getting quite a lot of media attention due to the fact that today it marks its 24th birthday.

Daily Mail informs that Ambam currently lives at Port Lympne wild animal park near Hythe, Kent, and that it tips the scale at about 220 kilograms (485 pounds). This makes it the biggest gorilla that said wildlife park currently accommodates for.

The same source tells us that, as surprising as this may sound, the ape's sister and the latter's son are also into the habit of walking upright. Caretakers and researchers are yet to figure out why these animals display this peculiar behavior.

“All gorillas have the ability to stand upright to some degree, although they often choose not to, but Ambam and his sister have a particular talent at standing and walking completely upright on two legs,” Phil Ridges with the Port Lympne wild animal park told the press in a recent interview.
