Soon, Amazon might make official its first smartphone, a device that has been rumored for over a year now and which appears almost ready to make an official appearance on shelves out there.

Unfortunately, the latest data on the handset’s availability suggests that Amazon might actually partner with AT&T for an exclusive launch in the United States.

Moreover, it appears that Amazon is aiming at offering the phone on an exclusive monthly plan, which will be called Prime Data.

A recent BGR report claims that this wireless data plan will be one of the main selling points of the handset, and that it won’t be a rebranded service plan from AT&T.

However, it appears that Amazon is tight-lipped on this data plan, and that specific info on what it might include hasn’t been provided as of now.

According to the news site, Prime Data might become the first high-profile deal that will feature a setup similar to that of AT&T’s Sponsored Data program.

However, it should be different from the existing offer, mainly due to the fact that there are API limitations and co-branding requirements in the applications that use Sponsored Data.

With Prime Data, users will receive free access to streaming movies, TV shows, music and other content over cellular data networks.

Specific details on Amazon’s plans for the new device, its availability and bundled services should start arriving in the not-too-distant future, so keep an eye on this space for updates.
