It offers illustrated children’s books, Send-to-Kindle capabilities

Amazon has just made available for download a new version of their Kindle for Android application, currently available for download both through Google Play Store and via Amazon’s own app portal for Android.

The mobile application was made available for all devices powered by Google’s Android 2.1 or newer OS flavors, and is free.

There are some appealing new features included in the new application release, such as the addition of illustrated content for children and the availability of Send-to-Kindle support on Android.

Through these new features, Amazon is making sure that more users around the world can take advantage of the wide range of books available through it Kindle store, and that they also benefit from a better experience than before.

The release notes for the new application version include:

- Support for Kindle Format 8 and a larger assortment of illustrated children’s books, comic books, and graphic novels. Shop for over 1000 children’s titles such as Brown Bear and Curious George, and comics such as Batman and Superman. Plus, richer formatting in thousands of other Kindle titles.

- Email documents to your new Send-to-Kindle e-mail address and we deliver them to your device. Documents are archived in the Amazon Cloud and can be re-downloaded to supported Kindle devices and apps.

For those out of the loop, we should note that Amazon’s Kindle app will provide users with access to a catalog of more than 1 million Kindle books that can be purchased and downloaded on Android devices.

In fact, these books are available for other users as well, since Amazon has made Kindle apps available for more mobile platforms, as well as for the owners of Kindle devices.

The Android application offers both reading and navigation capabilities, so that users could easily find more books in the Kindle store or read those that they have already purchased and downloaded.
