Amazon offers a free expedited shipping offer to celebrate

Generally, most news about e-readers revolved around their low availability and how shipments won't be delivered on time for many customers, especially those wanting to acquire the Nook from Barnes and Noble. Also, market analysts believed that the market for e-readers would not grow at a very rapid rate because their prices were rather high. Nevertheless, Amazon's Kindle E-book reader achieved a feat which likely left at least a few people speechless. More specifically, even though, by humanity's reckoning, time had just barely reached mid-December, the device had already surpassed the previous record for monthly sales from Amazon.

The previous record was set only last month, which means that the Kindle was the prime choice of Amazon customers for the holiday shopping season. This is all the more impressive considering the fact that Amazon is not entirely without competition, as both Sony and Barnes and Noble are currently marketing their own products, although, true enough, they seem to not have inventories large enough to meet the high demand.

Amazon decided to celebrate this achievement by offering two days of expedited shipping in the United States.

"We've made it even easier and faster for gift-givers to order Kindle. Kindle is available today with FREE Two-day Shipping in time for Christmas," said Ian Freed, vice president, Amazon Kindle. "Kindle is the gift for readers. Now you don't have to guess which books to give someone -- with Kindle, you can give them the gift of choosing over 390,000 books and more than 100 top newspapers and magazines from around the world and begin reading them in less than 60 seconds."

Of course, there are still almost two weeks left until December ends, which means that the amount of Kindle sales will probably continue to go up, likely setting a high enough record that any other Amazon product will have trouble matching.
