Amazon jumps from number four to number one

In the wake of Apple’s iPad Air 2 launch, we bring you an interesting piece of information. Just five months ago Apple received the illustrious J.D. Power tablet satisfaction award, pushing Samsung aside into the shadows.

But fast-forward to the present and Apple itself is being pushed aside by no other than Amazon. The tech giant might have messed things up while its Fire Phone is concerned, but its tablet sales remain Amazon’s base.

Amazon's tablets keep customers happy

Amazon managed to rise up to the number 1 position for the first time with 827 points out of 1000 possible. Following in close vicinity, you’ve guessed it, is the dethroned player, Apple, which only managed to score 824 this time around.

Completing the top 3 is Samsung with 821, while ASUS and Acer come in at number 4 and 5, respectively. The J.D. Power satisfaction score is made up of five different categories users involved in the study have to give ratings to, including performance, ease of operation, features, styling and design and cost.

Apple’s iPad received high grades in the performance and styling and design departments, while Amazon towered over the ease of operating and cost. After all, Amazon’s Fire HDX tablets offer better than average specs for quite an affordable rate.

On top of that, Amazon’s slates bring a special feat to the table, in the form of the MayDay button, which allows users to get in touch with the Amazon support crew whenever their tablet is experiencing issues (and that means 24/7).

Amazon launched the 7-inch model of the Fire HDX tablet in October 2014, and a few months later it put out the 8.9-inch variation. J.D. Power’s survey found that customers were really enthusiastic with the Fire HDX.

To come up with the current numbers, J.D. Power asked 2,700 US tablet owners to participate and share their experience working with a tablet for less than a year. The survey ran from March to August.

The new iPads might propel Apple back to the top

The new results are quite interesting, given the fact that last time J.D. Power posted its tablet customer satisfaction scores, Amazon ranked fourth. This is quite a jump that happened in just a few months.

But J.D. Power points outs Apple only put out the iPad Air 2 and iPad 3 a few weeks ago and the current survey ended in August when there were no new iPads to behold. Given this aspect, J.D Power expects Apple to make a strong comeback.
