Ketu Patel, who leads the video games and software section at the United Kingdom division of Amazon, says that the PlayStation 4 from Sony is currently seeing bigger sales than the Xbox One from Microsoft, which has a lot of catching up to do.

He tells Edge that the two devices both have their advantages and that the future will be determined by which of them has the most interesting coming titles.

Titanfall, which will only be offered on the Xbox One, the PC and the 360, is one of the games that create a surge for the Microsoft device.

Patel says, “I think Microsoft have got themselves a big coup there in negotiating that with EA. It will help close the gap, but personally speaking I think that gap is quite a big one at the moment. There's a lot of catching up to do.”

Titanfall is created by Respawn Entertainment and published by Electronic Arts, designed to offer deep 6 versus 6 battles which also involve mechs and AI combatants.

Patel adds, “If you look at our bestsellers chart PS4 always has been, and still is, our number one best seller...Xbox One will fall somewhere within the top five. Obviously one console has outperformed the other generally and we probably confirm that split between the two.”

Sony says that the PlayStation 4 has managed to move 4.2 million units to gamers before the end of 2013.

The company also has big plans for this year, including exclusive titles that are supposed to drive sales, like DriveClub and The Order: 1886.

At the same time, Microsoft is counting on the popularity of its shooter line-up and might also reveal the existence of a new Halo title before the end of the year, which might accompany the live action series helmed by Steven Spielberg.
