The iPad model also embeds the Retina Display, but remains exceedingly light nevertheless

Apple just introduced a lighter new tablet which has been dubbed the iPad Air. Keeping that in mind, it was to be expected the competition will start getting nervous about how this launch might affect their business.

However, Amazon was the quickest to counteract, in an effort to remind customers that there are other options available on the market, even lighter than Apple’s offering.

Amazon has sneakily slipped in a new ad for the Kindle Fire HDX tablet on its official website, saying it was “Lighter than Air.”

While that might be true to a certain point, there’s also a caveat. Apple’s new tablet features a 9.7-inch screen and weighs 454 grams / 1 pound while the Kindle Fire HDX comes in 8.9- and 7-inch versions, weighing 374 grams / 0.8 pounds and 303 grams / 0.6 pounds, respectively. So with a bigger screen, one would expect Apple’s baby to be a bit chunkier.

Basically, Amazon’s statement is a bit misleading, but it makes for a hilarious marketing strategy nonetheless.
