Earlier today, we reported that some users have noticed bluish tinges around the Kindle Fire HDX screen edges. Theories were mixed, and those directly contacting Amazon were assured the company will be sending them a replacement.

The MayDay helpline, on the other hand, provided worried customers with a different answer. According to them, the blue-tinged screen was a result of an optical issue but nothing serious.

However, Amazon now aims to shed some light on the problem and has posted the official explanation for the phenomenon on the Kindle Fire HDX official page. You can find it under the “We want you to know” heading.

It turns out that Amazon apparently used blue LEDs to light up the display, so the blue hues spotted around the edges are perfectly natural.

The company explains why it chose to use this technology instead of the white LED one. Apparently, they have done so to save up on battery life with up to 20% and provide a more accurate and richer representation of colors. Now everybody should be able to breathe in relief.
